PERFECTLY IMPERFECT

THE GRADUATE COLLECTION

Inspired by the philosophical understandings of Wabi Sabi, ‘Perfectly Imperfect’ aims to open up the discussion of upcycling and reuse. With the rise of mass production and high demand, the modern consumer has lost all appreciation and understanding of their clothes. This collection aims to change a mass consumers perspectives by incorporating the history and personal narratives woven into pre loved denim.
Wabi Sabi is not only about finding beauty in the imperfect, but seeing value in an objects age and pantina. ‘Perfectly Imperfect’ illuminates and appreciates the decay and imperfection found within second hand denim pieces. Each look has been designed around the shapes and uniquely individual structure of each pre-loved piece. This history and individuality, paired with modern silhouettes and fabrications creates an innovative and forward thinking approach to garment construction and design.
“The surface marks acquired by denim through everyday life are not perceived as flaws but often as scars, reinforcing the metaphor of cloth as a vehicle for personal narratives. It is perhaps for this reason that, when garments reach a pivotal stage of aesthetic perfection, some wearers strive to conserve them in a similar way to bespoke or haute couture items.”
